It is our hope and prayer that this letter finds you in good health and spirits this holiday season.
The summer came to an end, the work campers have all gone home, and the kids are back in school. You would think things would slow down and they do to a certain extent. Then the job of assessing the damages of an amazing summer! Five weeks of kid’s camp and seventeen weeks of work campers can take its toll on anything.
One of the major jobs is that our 8 cabins are in need of a makeover. The floors are in need of replacement and the walls need to be fixed and painted. Two churches are interested in adopting a cabin to fix and decorate as one of the Snow White and Seven Dwarf cottages (for which they're named). So we have six cabins left. If this is something your church is interested in it should cost about $300.00.
Also, the old bathhouse needs a new roof, and we are putting two restrooms behind the Snow White cabin to accommodate our guests.
What are we up to now? The Woolly Worm Festival is one of the street ministries we offer the community. All of the activities are free; we painted 758 faces. One of the volunteers said it best, “When a child first looks in the mirror to see the design on their face, just for a moment, there is a twinkle in their eyes and a smile on their face. It is just like Jesus winking at you and saying, 'Well done.'" After she said this; when I saw the twinkle, it brought tears to my eyes. I’m so blessed!
I am on a steering committee for a leadership program. The goals are to develop town leaders, create jobs, and help to alleviate hunger in three counties.
The Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the first responders went well with lots of wonderful food. Next year we hope to have a greater response and hopefully the weather will cooperate. In all we gave away 6 Thanksgiving dinners.
All the Children in the three county areas are invited to our yearly Christmas party. This has the potential of reaching 1500 or more children but it has been our experience that only about 250-500 people show up. We hope to provide each child with dinner, games, and two toys. I say 'hope' because we are little short of donations this year.
We have four weeks already taken for this summer: March 26- April 2, June 19-25, July 17-23 and July 24-30. The weeks are assigned on a first come first serve bases. It's funny thinking about summer camps, when it is soooo cold outside!
Keep warm and we’ll see you at the camp or on Facebook at cumberlandmountain or Cindy Feller or Kuzco the Llama.
